Join #TeachingEnglish for this live video event with George Wilson, Head of English Programmes at the British Council in France.
We are marking the United Nations International Mother Language Day by exploring George's own academic research into regional languages, which are close to his heart.
Originally from the UK, he's been working as a teacher, a teacher trainer and an education manager for the last 20 years, both at the British Council and at various higher education institutions. In his current role, George works closely with teachers, school leaders and ministry officials across France to help support the quality learning and teaching of English and to promote a rich and healthy language eco-system.
George completed his MA in Comparative Education at UCL's Institute of Education in 2021 and focused closely on the role of education in protecting and promoting regional languages across Europe. He has since published his research into Breton and Welsh immersion education in the academic journal Current Issues in Language Planning.
