Art, today, can only consider sports, a genuine backdrop of our contemporary societies. At the initiative of Frac Sud - City of Contemporary Art and upon the invitation of its director, Muriel Enjalran, the curator and art critic Jean-Marc Huitorel has conceived an exhibition in three prominent cultural institutions in the South region and the city of Marseille. Titled Des exploits, des chefs-d’œuvre, it aims to explore the relationship between art and sports through over 200 works by nearly 100 French and foreign artists, where fascination, critique, and humour coexist.
Three flexible and porous approaches are proposed, corresponding to the three exhibition venues: L'heure de gloire at Frac Sud - City of Contemporary Art, Trophées et reliques at Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations), and Tableaux d’une exposition at [mac] Museum of Contemporary Art in Marseille.
This exhibition is part of the Cultural Olympiad, a programme that explores the connections between art and athletics. The British Council supports this exhibition and lends pieces from its collection to be presented in the three cultural institutions.
Labelled Cultural Olympiad by Paris 2024.
