The British Council in partnership with the Normandy Memorial Trust are pleased to host a D-Day assembly on 6 June (the 80th anniversary of D-Day) at 9am UK/10am France for secondary pupils in France and in the UK. This session will allow students to find out what happened on D-Day and what role codebreaking and secret information played. They will also disover the role of resistants and civilians.
The panel consists of:
- Jane Furlong, lead historical researcher at the Normandy Memorial Trust
- David, historian from GCHQ (NB. We aren't allowed to give family names of GCHQ people)
- Claire Andrieu, French historian specialised in the Second World War and the Resistance
The event will also include a video from a D-Day veteran.
Students will be able to send questions in advance and via the chat during the event.
You can find classroom activities about D-Day in our education pack.
