Opening Saturday 1 June 2024, 5-8pm
From 2 to 30 June 2024
Monday-Sunday: 2pm-6pm
Wednesday: 2pm-8pm
Multi-disciplinary Northern Irish artist Michael Hanna takes himself as the subject for his social and sensory experiments.
Over the last three years, his project ‘Crossing the Park' has seen the artist attempt to change his deep-set allegiance from Everton Football Club to their arch rivals, Liverpool. The strongly negative reactions that this change provokes allows the artist to question themes of loyalty, empathy, solidarity and identity. This exhibition presents a selection of works that document and explore Michael Hanna’s transition. It forms the culmination of the CCI’s six-month Project Space dedicated to the links between sport and the arts.
5pm on 1 June, as part of the exhibition opening, a football match is taking place in the CCI courtyard between Liverpool and Everton supporters. Michael Hanna will play on the Liverpool side, for the Reds: the final step of a series of actions designed in consultation with a psychologist, to aid the artist’s conversion.
6.30pm, Conversation between the artist and critic Orit Gat (admission free - in English).
7.30pm, Musical after party with Parisian electro artist MADMOIZEL... before the Nuit Blanche festivities begin at 8pm.
