Porcelain and leather
Durational live Performance and film, with porcelain garland
In this performance, artist Anna Falcini walks around the perimeter of La Villa des Brillants, a gesture of memory that brings to life the experiences of Welsh artist Gwen John (1876-1939) who walked around the boundary in the hope of meeting her lover, Auguste Rodin (1840 -1917). John was never permitted to enter the villa and her letters reveal her fantasies of seeing Rodin from a distance, in his garden or meeting him by chance at the gate.
In the performance, Falcini wears a porcelain garland; a reworking of an original garland of ivy that Rodin had created for his Whistler’s Muse sculpture that Gwen John modelled for. The garland was never realised in the final work and the sculpture was rejected by its commissioners.
The performance will be captured in a film.
